The U13 Falls Aces competed well over the weekend in the Germantown “B” Summer Slam tournament. The team went 2-0 on Saturday to earn the #2 seed in Sunday’s bracket play, then failing to advance in a tough game against Whitefish Bay on Sunday. Whitefish Bay ended up taking 2nd place in the tournament, while the Aces learned some valuable lessons about themselves.
The primary focus over Winter was on offensive production, and that was on display all weekend as the Aces pounded out 38 hits while averaging 7 runs scored per game. The Aces tore up the base paths by stealing 26 bases over the weekend as well.
Brayden Stephan knocked in 6 runs while going 6 for 8 at the plate. Hans Kriese contributed with another 4 RBI. Leading off, Zion Cordoves went 3 for 6 with 4 runs scored while also drawing 4 base-on-balls. Zion and Brayden also lead the speed assault with 5 stolen bases each. Overall, 12 of 13 Aces picked up a hit and 10 of 13 scored a run. The offensive engine is certainly tuned up!
Pitching was overall strong all weekend, however the defensive consistency and magic on display Saturday (only 2 errors and 4 double plays turned in two games) vanished on Sunday when the Aces committed a season high 8 errors in one game. Errors lead to pitchers having to work longer and harder, which eventually leads to less effective pitching.
The U13 Falls Aces will be heading to the Field of Dreams tournament this weekend, joined by the U12 – Navy squad. Good luck to both teams, and GO ACES!
