Outfield Drills

Learning to track and catch fly balls in the outfield takes a lot of repetition. The drill linked below allows Coaches to get multiple reps with up to 6 players done in a short amount of time. You should be able to get 10 reps with all 6 players in about 10-15 minutes.

Rainbow Route Drill

The key here is watching the player’s first step. If going back (straight or angled) the player should drop step. If going to the left or right cones, a crossover should be utilized. Hops, or turning the wrong way should be corrected.

This drill can be done inside or outside, as well as part of your pre-game routine for outfielders.
